create The Jewellery Quarter has become a haven for artists, writers, musicians and those working in the creative industries. Those living in the Quarter are surrounded by cultural treats including museums, galleries and, of course, over a hundred jewellery shops. The Museum of the Jewellery Quarter has maintained a real jewellery factory, little changed since the early part of the last century. The Earth’s Riches gallery showcases jewellery made from material found in the natural world, from whale tooth and coral to diamond and platinum, while a wide range of original jewellery by local designer makers is sold through the museum shop. The Museum was recently voted in the top three of free European visitor attractions. There is also the Pen Room Museum that recalls the days when, during the 19th Century, 75% of everything written in the world was with a Birmingham pen. Next door to St Paul’s Place is The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) Gallery, which has a changing programme of exhibitions on two floors of gallery space that includes four open exhibitions where artists can submit work for selection. The ground floor has space for solo shows as well as a Craft Gallery, which has established a reputation as the place to find exciting and unique jewellery. Also nearby is St Pauls Gallery, the world’s leading retailer in signed limited edition album cover fine art. Also on show are exclusive collections of signed limited edition musician portrait photographs and fine art prints. Meanwhile, Artfull Expression provides a showcase for contemporary designer-makers of jewellery in silver and other materials.
